Project Details

The project’s purpose is to improve operations on Route 1 in South Brunswick and North Brunswick Townships in Middlesex County by utilizing the right shoulder as a travel lane during designated Hard Shoulder Running (HSR) hours. The HSR hours will be posted along Route 1 and at cross streets and driveways. The project limits extend nearly five miles from County Route 522 to Aaron Road to provide three travel lanes in each direction during the Monday through Friday AM and PM rush hour travel periods. Upon activation of the HSR lanes, the NJDOT will be evaluating the Route to compare before and after conditions.
